Monserrate Bogota

Image
The Church on top of Monserrate mountain was a Catholic church built between 1650 and 1657. Located 3,152 meters above sea level, Monserrate was a favourite place for the pilgrimage in the earlier days, and it hasn't stopped in the modern day. The church's popularity continues soaring, and it becomes one of the tops visited places in Bogota.

Three Days Two Nights in Girardot

Image
Last month Mike and I had a chance to travel a bit further away from Bogota for the warm weather, and also for my birthday vacation. It's a town about 137km away from our home in Chapinero, Bogota. This town founded on 09th October 1852 and its name 'Girardot' was a tribute to the hero named Manuel Atanasio Girardot who died in the Battle of the Bárbula. The temperature during our stay was around 28ºC to 33ºC.

One night in San Francisco Cundinamarca

Image
San Francisco is another place where you can go for quick and temporary relief from the cold weather in Bogota. Located about 55km away from Bogota with the elevation of 1,520metres and the average temperature of 20°C. Though it's not as warm as its neighbouring town La Vega, it's still an excellent place to be.

Glamping and Hiking in the Caribbean Coast

Image
A taxi ride from Santa Marta town to Tayrona Park is about 90,000 ~ 100,000COP, but you could also take public transport to bring down the cost. The bus parked in front of Santa Marta public market at Carrera 9 Calle 11 with a signed P. Tayrona and other destination like Guachaca in front of the bus's mirror. In this trip, we stayed at Playa Los Angeles, which is about 70 minutes journey - 40km from the town, and 3km away from the park's entrance.

The old town with its cobbled alleys, beautiful balcony decorated with flowers and vibrantly coloured colonial architecture, is the most cherished treasure of Cartagena, and what makes it unique is that the area surrounded by Las Murallas, the thick walls built to protect the town against enemies back in 16th - 17th centuries.

Mini Mal and BBC Chapinero

After enduring the 19 hours flight time plus another 5 hours waiting in the Mexico airport, we finally arrived in the capital city of Colombia, Bogota. If we were to fly to the US, we wouldn't need to wait that long for a connecting flight to Bogota. However, I couldn't go that route because I would have had to apply for a Transit VISA which cost $160.00, same price as tourist visa!

Gangneung Beaches and Food

Image
On our last trip here in Korea, we explored Gangneung, the city in the province of Gangwon-do, on the east coast of South Korea. We have been living in Korea for almost two years now, and yet we never travelled by bus, so on this trip, we gave it a go. Mike booked the bus ticket online from Kobus, and when we got to the bus station, we went up to the first floor, printed out the ticket from the Kiosk machine and get on the bus.

Klong Prao Trek with Tan Trekking Koh Chang

Image
Jungle trekking is one of the activity must do when visiting Koh Chang. However, accessing the waterfall or finding the safest routes to the peak of the jungle was hard work without marked trails. The only way to safely explore those places is by going with a local experienced tour guide.

There are very few licensed tour guides in Koh Chang, and not many could speak English fluently as Mr Tan, he is knowledgeable, passionate about the jungle and has been trekking in Koh Chang for over a decade.

Koh Chang Thailand

Image
My flight from Kuala Lumpur landed at 5:15 pm, and I thought I'll be able to meet up with Mike about 7 pm. But I was wrong. I spent 40 minutes queuing for immigration clearance, and the journey in a taxi took about 2 hours to get to Amora NeoLuxe Suites in Sukhumvit due to the traffic jammed. To top it off, my taxi driver didn't know how to get to the hotel. He drove to the area and called the hotel for a direction. But he already drove past it, and he asked me to walk to the hotel. I walked for about 10 minutes and reached the hotel at 8:30 pm. My in-laws were waiting for me, and they helped me get an extra keycard from the reception for Mike's room. Once freshened up, I went down to meet them, and we walked to Robin Hood bar to meet with Mike before getting a taxi to Sabaijai Gayang for dinner.

Jeonju Hanok Village Weekend Getaway

Image
Three months ago when we took the train down to Guryegu for hiking, we saw many people getting off in this station called Jeonju, and they were all looking very excited about it. I was intrigued by it and did some quick google search on that place, and I'm glad I did that. Jeonju has over 800 traditional Korean Hanok houses clustered in one area, and it's a great place for weekend getaway. But we couldn't immediately arrange for a visit because we have already had a travel plan in November and December so, it would have to be in January.

Day Trip to Maokong and Taipei Zoo

Image
The next morning after breakfast at the hotel, we took the Wenhu Line from Zhongshan Junior High School station to Taipei Zoo station. The ride was about 20 minutes with the cost of NT$ 24 paid with the Easy card. Two months ago when Adam visited us for a hike in Jirisan, he gave us the Easy Card as he no longer needed it. Besides paying for the metro with the card, we also used it to pay for the Maokong Gondola ride and the entrance fees for the Taipei Zoo.

Christmas in Brunei

Image
Travelling somewhere without buying the ticket beforehand is always a gamble especially during a public holiday. I was still pissed at the ticketing staff from yesterday. If only they willing to serve us at the last 3 minutes before the closing time, my mind would be at eased and we wouldn't have to rush to the counter early morning.
